Abstract

This article, the second of a series about the nervous system, examines the central nervous system, focusing on the structure and key functions of the major regions of the brain. It takes a closer look at the first of these regions, the cerebrum, which is the biggest part of the brain and largely consists of the left and right hemispheres. It also explains the roles of each of its four lobes: frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal. This overview of the central nervous system will be completed in part 3.
